Jeff Rake, Byron

On the front page of last week’s Echo you highlighted unemployment in the Shire, with mullum at 14.2 per cent.

Hard to believe when it is impossible to get a cleaner in town, hospitality venues are crying out for staff and the usual suspects are drunk at 8am in the Johnson Street bus shelter, or abusing locals and tourists alike (where did they get the money for that?).

Not sure what these 14.2 per cent do, but I’m not sure giving them more money is the answer. What do you think?

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
