Fairies need homes too! Vinnie Bleakley from the Brunswick Heads Post Office has been checking on a fairy’s new tiny home to make sure they are comfy. There are a number of lovely little fairy houses tucked into interesting locations around Bruns – to learn more visit www.brunswickheads.org.au. Photo Eve Jeffery

The Brunswick Heads Post Office Fairy was very happy when they moved into their own, first home, in a post office box in 2018. It was a terrible tragedy for them to come home one morning last September and find that while they had been visiting children, someone had stolen all their fairy stuff.

Post office owner Vinnie Bleakley said the burglar had been calculated in their theft. ‘They pulled the front glass off. They gutted it and then put the glass back and closed the door. There was no violent destruction which was really weird. It wasn’t just a spontaneous theft.’

Vinnie reached out to Andrew Breed who furnished the first home and he was happy to come back and do a remodel – with some improvements.

The Post Office Fairy is just one of a growing community of fay creatures who have moved into Bruns in the last few years and children come from near and far to explore the town and look for tiny beings.

‘Every day there are kids coming in looking for it,’ said Andrew. ‘It’s just great seeing the joy in their faces and the mystery of it all. We get hundreds of letters a year for the fairies.

‘The kids were a bit devastated when the fairy had no home but everyone is happy now and the fairy has a place to rest.’

The Brunswick Heads Fairy Trail is a fun and free activity for families with younger children. Find out more at the Visitor Information Centre.
