A Northern Rivers housing roundtable in this week.
Member for Lismore, Janelle Saffin MP explained that it was prompted in large part by the need to plan for the transition of residents at pod villages, and because of the housing crisis that has existed in our region for a long period of time.
The event was hosted by Ms Saffin with the Minister Rose Jackson, the NSW Minister for Housing, Homelessness and the North Coast, attending.
‘Minister Jackson is very invested and active in trying to turnaround this long term neglect in housing,’ said Ms Saffin.
‘The stakeholders who attended included Mayors and MPs and housing and homelessness service providers, and there were some great ideas shared.
‘We looked at what we can do now, and in the medium and long term, and there were some great ideas shared. The range of issues discussed included land banking, tiny homes, new forms of housing rental reform, and support for service providers.
‘We have to come to grips with planning at local and state levels. We can’t resolve this overnight but if we’re not all together working on it, we won’t get anywhere.
‘People went away enthused because they felt that something was going to happen and they felt they had a good hearing from a Minister with a commitment, who is a great advocate,’ Ms Saffin said.
