With Lismore’s Masonic Temple being gutted by fire this week, the small theatre company that called it home is seeking help from the community to rebuild.

A Gofundme page has been set up to help the small family-run kids theatre company to help them get back on their feet.

The page claims to have been approved for release by Angela Mitchell, Artistic Director and owner of Theatre Theatre Productions Lismore.

The page reads, ‘Extensive fire and smoke damage has destroyed our theatre which is the beating heart of Lismore children’s theatre’.

This isn’t a large theatre company with big budgets or sponsors.

‘It’s the heartfelt work of one Lismore woman – Angela, who has poured her soul, savings, and every ounce of energy into giving local kids a safe and creative space to perform, learn, and belong.

Theatre Theatre was already devastated during the 2022 floods, losing so much once before. Against all odds, it was rebuilt – piece by piece – through hard work, determination, and community spirit.

‘Now, heartbreakingly, it’s all gone again.

The fire has taken everything – the stage, theatre lighting, props, costumes, electronics, and theatre seating – nothing can be salvaged owing to fire and smoke and water damage.

‘Even more devastating, there are two upcoming kids performances just weeks away and they now have no stage, no venue, and no equipment.

Despite this, the community refuses to give up.

‘This theatre has been a lifeline for Lismore’s young people, running four to five programs every week, nurturing confidence, creativity, and friendship in local kids. Losing it means losing one of the few creative outlets left for Lismore’s youth.

‘Now, they need help – urgently.

‘Funds raised will go toward: Securing a temporary venue so classes and shows can continue; Replacing props, costumes, lighting, and sound gear; Rebuilding the essentials that make performances possible; and Supporting the continuation of the kids’ theatre program in any space they can find.

We’re asking our community to please come together and help rebuild their stage and their hope.

Every dollar helps us find a new venue, replace what was lost, and keep the magic of theatre alive for Lismore’s kids’, it reads.
