Greens say NSW budget ‘locks in pokies misery’

Cate Faehrmann MLC says the NSW government has knocked any hope of gambling reform on the head in yesterday’s state budget, with tax concessions to clubs with poker machines totalling $1.252 billion, while revenue from taxes on poker machine losses have been revised upward by a whopping $638.2 million over the forward estimates.

A special evening of art, film, music, and community will be held this Friday (November 7) at 3/6 Centennial Circuit, Byron Bay Arts & Industry Estate.

Starting at 5pm, the free event will feature surf film Interconnectedness, an art exhibition, book launch, live music, food trucks and giveaways

Organisers say all proceeds will help raise funds for children’s education, ocean conservation, first Nations communities.

The event is presented by Mr Vintage Australia and Sonja Katariina Vahaasari, with support from Bennett Surfboards, Byron Bay Spirits Co, Earth Beer Co. 

Organisers say Interconnectedness, by Theo Calvet and Sonja Katariina Vahaasari,  ‘highlights the bond between humans, nature, and artistic inspiration’.

‘Told through Sonja’s personal story – how she came to Australia, what drives her to create, and how she sees the world’s beauty.

The short film, Can’t Step Twice on the Same Piece of Water (Albert Falzon, 1993), will also screen.

Music by Ikebe Shakedown – ‘Don’t Contradict’

The art exhibition will feature works by Sonja Katariina Vahaasari and Albert Falzon, while Sonja will launch her book, The Little Tail.

There will also be  late night shopping, with 20% off storewide items  at Mr Vintage.

‘This one-night-only event celebrates creativity, nature, and the deep ties that connect us – through surf, storytelling, and art’, organisers say.

‘Bring your friends, enjoy the art, grab a drink, and celebrate surf culture and community’.
