As the dust settles on the horrific Bondi massacre on Sunday, north coast politicians made the following statements:

Janelle Saffin – NSW Member for Lismore (Labor)

‘Our Premier has spoken for all of us tonight when speaking about this cowardly terrorist attack. It was as he stated an attack designed to target Sydney’s Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah. We offer our condolences, our support, and our solidarity to our Jewish Community Members in Sydney, in NSW and here in our Northern Rivers.

Justine Elliot Richmond MP (Labor)

‘Today, and every day, we stand in solidarity with our Australian Jewish community.

Locally, it’s so important that we all wrap our arms around our Northern Rivers Jewish Community, and let them know that they are loved, and that they belong.

The devastating terrorist attack at Bondi Beach is shocking and distressing.

It was a targeted antisemitic attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Chanukah, which should be a joyous celebration of faith.

An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian.

There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation.

My thoughts are with every person affected, in particular the loved ones of those who died and those injured.

I also wish to pay tribute to the bravery of those who responded, including police, paramedics, and civilians’.

Kevin Hogan MP for Page (Nationals)

‘A touching memorial for the Bondi Beach victims at the Rotary Peace Poll in Lismore.

Our whole country can show the Jewish community we stand with them.

Thank you to the Lismore Rotary Club for organising this moving memorial’.

Tamara Smith NSW Ballina MP (Greens)

‘I went to bed in tears like you shocked and deeply disturbed by the mass shooting and murder of people in our community celebrating the Festival of Lights at Bondi Beach. My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those who were killed and to everyone who was impacted. Many of my colleagues will visit today to pay our respects. This is a time of deep grief and shock, so please look after yourselves’.

Ballina Mayor Sharon Cadwallader (Independent)

‘I am deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless violence that occurred at Bondi yesterday.

My heartfelt condolences go to the families and loved ones affected, and I extend my support and solidarity to the Jewish community at this incredibly distressing time.

Having recently attended the Anti-Semitism Conference on the Gold Coast, this tragedy is a stark reminder of why it is so important that we continue to stand firmly against hatred, intolerance and violence in all its forms.

Our community stands for compassion, inclusion and respect. Today, we stand together in grief, in support, and in our shared commitment to keeping our communities safe and united.

My thoughts are with everyone impacted’.

Sarah Ndiaye – Byron Shire Mayor  (Greens)

‘Tonight’s shooting is devastating. Shocking! I am horrified by what has happened. My heart goes out to the victims, their loved ones, and community. Bondi is home. So sad.’

Steve Krieg – Mayor of Lismore (Independent)

‘A tragic day. Our country deserves much better than to witness the tragedy that unfolded at Bondi today.

I sincerely wish the innocent victims and their families all the love and support, and trust that the police and our justice system will act swiftly to ensure the perpetrators face the full force of the law’.
