VRA Brunswick-Byron is inviting adults across Byron Shire to join the local volunteer rescue team during a recruitment campaign running during September.
The squad supports the community across Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby, Bangalow and surrounding areas. New recruits do not need previous rescue experience, with VRA Rescue NSW providing structured training and an onboarding pathway.
‘Our volunteers are ordinary local people who have chosen to learn the skills to help when something goes wrong. We are looking for people from across the Byron Shire who are reliable, willing to train regularly and ready to become part of a close, capable team,’ said Captain Sue Biggar.
‘You do not need rescue experience, because VRA provides the training. What matters is commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to contribute to your community. If you have ever wondered whether you could do it, get in touch and have a conversation with us.’

Potential volunteers are encouraged to contact the squad directly through its Facebook page with any questions at https://www.facebook.com/BrunswickValleyRescue. The official application pathway is to visit www.rescue.org.au select ‘Volunteering’ and submit an Expression of Interest. Applicants must be at least 18.
