A story by the Sydney Morning Herald this morning that Byron Bay Public School is in lock down is incorrect. The children are safe and the school is going ahead with its usual day and children are currently in the ANZAC Day assembly.
However, as reported in the SMH earlier this morning there was an incident at the school where a teacher was allegedly stabbed with a pair of scissors by a women. The school was in lockdown while a crime scene was established and investigated prior to school commencing.
Police attended the school at 7.20am this morning following the reports of a stabbing and found a male teacher with cuts to his face and arms.
According to one parent the school gates were locked while the police attended the scene.
‘The injuries were not life-threatening in nature,’ said a police spokesperson.
The teacher is now being treated in hospital.
Woman arrested
A woman is currently under arrest and in relation to the incident and is currently assisting police with enquiries.
