Jingehlah gumbi-nguh,
Hello everybody. My name is Anthony Gordon.
I would like firstly to say that I am deeply offended that my name has been used in a culturally inappropriate way.
Secondly my father and family have always maintained a proper and culturally appropriate connection with the traditional family groups of the Arakwal nation.
Recently an article has been written where Lewis Walker as well as my name was used to disguise the real intentions of the writer.
I have a different perspective. It is culturally inappropriate to assume that I can speak and act on behalf of all our families of all the Bundjalung nation.
I can only act and conduct myself on behalf of my own family, to which I have devoted my life, to respect our people and our culture.
I personally would like to express that I totally support Rhoda and the Boomerang Festival.
How wonderful such an event is happening in Arakwal country. It is a great tribute to their continuation of such an ancient beautiful heritage.
As a clan representative, I am humbled that NITV has also used footage of myself to promote such a culturally significant event, and to be given the chance to stand as a representative, highlighting and showcasing the diversity and continuation of our people’s culture.
I am wishing all will be good for all concerned. Please accept my apology for any misinformation toting my name.
This is letter to say thank you and all respect to our ancestors long time ago, today and tomorrow.
May you journey well.
Anthony Gordon, Goonellabah
