CSG Free Community activists have agreed not to blockade mining company Metgasco’s efforts to decommission 19 test wells it has drilled in the region.
The company is required by legislation to fill the well heads with concrete, overlaid with soil, pressure test the wells and re-establish vegetation on the site.
The company has announced trucks will again be seen on its sites but this time filled with cement slurry used to fill the wells.
The company estimates the works will take six months and cost some $3 million.
Lock the Gate spokesperson Boudicca Cerese told local media the group had no intention of interrupting the remediation works which she said were in the best interests of all concerned.
