Kingscliff Men

Super Challenge: In Round 2 played on February 1, Section 4 Men defeated Condong 5 – 0 and the women lost 0 – 4.  Section 3 won on two rinks but Macleay Island had wins on the other three to win 3 – 2. Next round will see Section 3 play Logan City at Logan City and Section 4 will play Burleigh Heads at Kingscliff.

Tweed Valley Shield: In Round 2 Kingscliff had 5 – 2 wins in both divisions against Pottsville. In Round 3 against South Tweed, A Division had wins in both games to score 57 shots to 20 and B Division won one and lost one but had an overall score of 41 shots to 36 . Round 4 will be played at Kingscliff on 10th February and Kingscliff will be up against Tweed Heads.

Monday January 27 – Tweed Valley Shield – Round 2 at Tweed Heads Bowls Club was against Kingscliff.  A valiant effort from Phill Bennett’s team in A Division produced a nice win together with Ray Chandler’s team, in B Division, who also notched up a good win.  We now have points on the board!  Well done, boys.  Round 4 on 10 February will be at Kingscliff B.C. against the Coolangatta sides.  Good bowling, fellas.

Wednesday January 29 –   Social Bowls – Hot steamy conditions didn’t deter the guys at all.  Lee Olson, Ron Appleton and Jim Field got together to take out the winners prize.  Not far behind were Runners-up Les Hendry, George Stewart and Norm Armour.  Saturday 1 February:  Social Bowls – Micheal Coyte, Ray Daunt and Merv Brady (Yep, its our Merv again) collected the winners prize today.  Runners-up  were Alan Meighan and Luke Wade.  Birthday greetings to Ken Curry and Milton Rice.

Saturday February 1 – Championship Games:  Club Championship Fours – In the first of the semi-finals played today, with two great teams going head to head, spectators were treated to a feast of wonderful bowling prowess from both sides.  While leading all the way in a very close game, team Bennett held on to come out on top. Congratulations to the winners Kev Hall, Jim Field, Doug Moir and Phill Bennett together with the defeated Bruno Palmer (Sub for Brian Jackson), Alan Margan, Frank Fielding and Bob Nathan who went down 25-21.  A thrilling game to witness.

Quarter-final Club Championship Fours – Graham Crawley, Ken McInnes, Damien Sparkes and Greg Sawtell defeated Josh Sawtell, Lee Olsen, John Koning and Bruce Cumming 28-18.  Club Championship Triples  Ken Coyte, Ron Parker and Steve Waygood defeated Frank Moore, Mark Bennett and Alan Bennett.  Congrats everyone on your efforts.

Thursday January 30:  Social Bowls – Light breezes gave the ladies some comfort from the humid conditions,  Winners (draw) on a count back were Pat Bryant, Jean Crombie and Jan Richards.  Runners-up (hws) after being a bit slow to get going, were Judith Tuckey, Lorraine Rice and Jo Fletcher.  Raffle prizes were collected by Pat Field and Jean Crombie.

Byron Bay Cycle Club

Byron Bay Cycle Club is holding Criterium racing next Sunday February 9 in the Byron Industrial Estate off Bayshore Drive from Ewingsdale Rd. Registration will be near Bean Cafe carpark, Byron Bay in Centennial Circuit, at 6.30am for a 7.00am start.

Race entry payment at sign on desk $10.00. Cycling Australia Race Licenses are to be presented and no Day Licences available. Please note that signing up or renewal can be done online with Cycling Australia website for licenses for cycling competitions and events that include a comprehensive package of insurance cover. Next following race dates Byron Bay Cycle Club is holding 23/2, 9/3, 23/3 & 27/4.

*** We welcome any new or old to the sport either as Racing or Ride membership to join our club. BBCC aim is to promote a safe racing environment through training to improve the novice and social riders to an improved competitive level. We are aiming to have our new 1km Criterium track located at the new Byron Region Sports & Cultural Centre for next season. The more club members the more support is generated for this project.

Training is on Tuesday and Thursday at 6am leaving from the Clock Tower in Byron St, near the corner of Jonson St, with moderate rides leaving at 6.30am on Monday Wednesday & Fridays. There’s also a longer club coffee ride that leaves at 6.30am Saturday at a more social pace details with route announced Friday on our Facebook site.

Hemp industry given boost with development plan
