Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Killer Crocs!

When I was 18, to rebel against the world my parents had created, I shaved a half Mohawk, encouraged my hair to stand on end, grew my armpit hair, wore torn black rags, too much eyeliner and wore 18-hole Dr. Martens boots. These days, to give their parents the shits, the kids are wearing Crocs. With socks. They’re going for comfort.

A 19-year-old Ballina man and a 58-year-old Brunswick Heads man were killed when the cars they were driving were involved in a head-on smash on the Coast Road at Lennox Head in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Just after 2.30am, police were called to the accident and on arrival found a Toyota Camry sedan and a Ford Fairlane sedan had collided.

Ambulance paramedics attended, however the two male drivers died at the scene.

A 30-year-old male passenger in the Fairlane was taken to hospital with internal injuries but in a stable condition.

Police said speed appeared to be a factor in the accident.

They were told that the Camry driven by the 19-year-old man travelling north appeared to lose control before crossing onto the wrong side of the road and colliding with the Fairlane, believed to be a limousine hire vehicle.

The two men are yet to be named and the Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the accident.
