Is hydrogen part of a sustainable energy future?

There’s a lot to like about hydrogen. For starters, it’s abundant. Hydrogen can store excess renewable power. When liquified, it’s more energy intense than fossil alternatives. In a fuel cell, it can generate electricity. When it’s burned, the only by-product is water.

German chancellor Angela Merkel’s reaction to Israel’s blitzkrieg of Gaza was to simply state that Germany stands by Israel.

This is the best she could muster after more than 2,000 mainly civilians had been bombed and shelled with the most advanced weaponry in history.

However, contrast this with her horror over the beheading video of American journalist James Foley by Islamic State militants which sparked government condolences to Foley’s family.

German government spokesman, Steffen Seibert, told reporters that the video released by Islamic State jihadists depicted ‘the barbaric, truly merciless murder of a person’, calling it a ‘repulsive document’. Hundreds of videos showing horrific injuries to children in Gaza, however, did not merit a mention.

Merkel’s behaviour is tragically typical of the appalling hypocrisy of politicians in the West and in Australia which is the biggest impediment to a peaceful and just resolution of the Israel/Palestine conflict.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. Only a goose would think that there is fair play in conflicts between cultures. Merkel knows that there is no compromising with Arab terrorists abut apparently Mr Smith thinks he can. Good luck with that.
