at the Mullumbimby Ex-Services Club on Friday 19 June
Keeping it Rollin’ with Sal Kimber
Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel make their way back to Mullumbimby with a hot new single Stumble In The Dark from their eagerly awaited upcoming album, for a Friday 19 June performance at the Ex-Services Club that is sure to have you dancing in the aisles. Sal Kimber is one of Australia’s most exciting emerging singer/songwriters. Based in inner Melbourne, Kimber has been quietly stealing hearts on Australia’s live music scene for the past decade.
It was in 2008 that she really found her niche by forming alt-country band Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel (with older sister Beth Kimber on keyboards and accordion, Cat Leahy on drums and Trent McKenzie on electric and double bass).
The band’s self-titled 2011 album produced by award-winning guitarist Shane O’Mara received national and international airplay and was my choice for Australian Album of the Year. The new album has O’Mara again at the helm and promises to be even more exciting. The current lineup for this part of the tour is Sal Kimber on vocals, banjo and guitar, Beth (Buffy) Kimber on keys and accordion, Cat Leahy on drums, Richard Rose on bass and DA Calf on guitar. Hugely talented local teenager Isobel Simms-James will open with some very special guests.
Tickets at the door $25. 7.30pm.

Vernas keep dropped an amazing set at Falls Festival in Byron Bay on New Years Day 2015 and it is looking like a huge year ahead for this fresh band. Hotel Great Northern on Friday.

Brand Brandolini
Gabriel and Cecilia have been very busy bees lately recording a full-length 13-track album, Vessel. This album (like Eyelids Bouncing) possesses very experimental qualities and eclecticism. Like this brother/sister duo, their music is impossible to label; many of the overtones range from classical, folk, indie, to opera, metal, alternative and singer/songwriter genres. Gabriel and Cecilia venture into genre diversity, liberating themselves from the shackles of any one particular niche. The album features one song each from intriguing additional musical projects: Gabriel sings (and screams) angelically over a commanding heavy-metal piece with his ex-band Prowler and Cecilia joins forces with their two younger sisters the Three Little Sisters for a music with delightful purity and innocence.
Lyrical themes on this album are not light and superficial matters either, ranging from war, suicide, racism, rape and mental health to love, dreams and creativity. Demonstrating wisdom and perspective beyond their years, their hearts are in all the right places. Joined by their old school friends, No Frills Twins, at Mullumbimby Civic Hall on 20 June. Tickets are at the door. Kids $5, adults $10. CDs, vinyls and merchandise will be available to buy on the night.
