There are a number of species of Davidson’s Plum around. It’s a native rainforest plum, with Davidsonia jerseyana (otherwise known as Mullumbimby Plum) and Davidsonia johnsonii being particularly special because they are local bushfoods of our region that are classified as endangered in the wild. Davidsonia puriens is the third species, otherwise known as the Queensland Davidson’s plum.
A fourth and highly edible species grows in chocolate, in a companion planting with caramelised ginger, and can be gathered in relative safety from the Puremelt Chocolate Lounge in Mullumbimby at the moment. They make all their chocolates in house. You can watch through the window the chocolate being made if you get your timing right, and they’ll even give you a box to take home your harvest in.
