The bridges of Ballina Council

Ballina Shire Council has started preliminary investigation works at Fishery Creek Bridge, on River Street, and Canal Bridge, on Tamarind Drive, as part of their plan to duplicate both bridges.

The passenger of a vehicle involved in an accident on the Pacific Highway near Newrybar late yesterday afternoon had to be airlifted to hospital.

Police say the female driver of a sedan in the in the southbound lane of the newly opened stretch of highway lost control and veered into a guardrail, injuring the male passenger.

The man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital by helicopter in a stable condition.

The driver was also taken to hospital after treatment at the scene.

Southbound traffic was being diverted onto Hinterland Way at Ewingsdale for about four hours while emergency services, including police investigators, attended the scene.

All southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway have now reopened, the diversion has now been lifted and traffic has returned to normal in the area.
