A woman was killed in a two-car collision on Pacific Highway at Chinderah on Sunday afternoon.
Police say emergency services were called to the scene at around around 12.20pm but the woman died at the scene.
The motorway and Tweed Valley Way had been closed near the onramp.
Diversions have since been lifted, however heavy northbound traffic continued on the Pacific Motorway and Tweed Coast Road into Sunday evening.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Driving a friend to Gold Coast airport for a 3.30pm flight we got caught in the diversion of traffic off the Pacific motor Way at Clothiers Road. Of course we missed the plane and couldn’t get another flight until the following day. It is so sad that even with the upgraded highway we still have such terrible fatalities.
