This morning he was the first patient to be admitted to the new Byron Central Hospital (BCH) at Ewingsdale, just after 8am.

Victor is suffering from sciatic pain.

The hospital is operational as of today, and both the Mullumbimby and Byron Bay Hospitals, together with Bangalow Health Centre, are in the process of winding down.

Last week the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSW LHD) completed its scenario testing and made the final adjustments to the newly completed BCH, with staff ready to commence services.

NNSW LHD Chief Executive Wayne Jones said visitors are welcome to visit patients from 2pm today.

Any mother in labour is now to present to the new BCH.

‘On Thursday (June 9), the existing Bangalow, Mullumbimby and Byron Community Health services will open at the new BCH,’ Mr Jones said.
