I’d like to congratulate Byron Shire Council and Ballina MP Tamara Smith for knocking back premier Mike Baird’s shark nets and for implementing Shark Watch, a program specifically designed to protect surfers.
Even WA premier, Colin Barnett – not noted for his greenie credentials – rejected shark nets, calling them ‘killing machines.’
More than 1,000 dolphins and numerous other marine creatures have died in the Qld netting programs to date.
As a long-term Lennox Head resident and surfer, I am deeply saddened at the thought of a net within Cape Byron Marine Park at Lennox Head.
