Mullumbimby’s Matilda Vial won four silver medals at the Regional Athletics Carnival held in Ashmore (Qld) in early February.
Around 80 competitors from the Tweed Little Athletics were involved in the Regional carnival.
Matilda is in the under 10s and competed in the long jump, 70 metres, 100 metres and 200 metres, and came home with silver medals in all
‘Matilda is working hard with her trainer twice a week, and ready to come home with gold in the State Carnival,’ mum Fernanda Vial said.
Matilda achieved personal best times in all the events and she was very happy with the results.
Overall the TLA Seagulls had a great weekend with 59 athletes qualifying for the State Championships on March 17-19 at the QPAC.
In the u/16 girls the Seagulls won every gold medal on offer at the Regionals, and overall the Seagulls came second.
Matilda’s inspirations are Usain Bolt and Sally Pearson, and would like to win Gold for Australia in the Olympics one day.
