Barbara Roughan, Kingscliff
Dear politicians, do the words ‘pot’, ‘kettle’ and ‘black’ have any significance for you?
How can you call Labor’s choice of Kings Forest as their site for the new Tweed Valley hospital bizarre?
It is a greenfield site that fulfils all the criteria, the most important one being above the probably maximum flood level for the hospital site.
The fact that a complete health precinct can be planned around it, rather than inappropriate ad hoc development at the Kingscliff site, is a real bonus.
How can you continue to mislead the public by saying the choice by Health Infrastructure NSW has been transparent with community consultation.
To the health minister Brad Hazzard: at the meeting last Monday night you heard that a total of 600 submissions had been received, and a further 600 conversations had happened in local shopping centres and markets. What a miserable consultation this has been, when our Tweed population is over 90,000!
Tweed Heads residents still don’t realise that their hospital is closing as a hospital because you and your staff refuse to state this, but indulge in obfuscation to fool them, by saying that such decisions are way into the future.
How can you plan a hospital for the next 30 to 40 years if you can’t plan for the next four years.
Sorry, I’ve just seen your latest press release which states 60 to 70 years into the future! My apologies…
Your choice of the Kingscliff site (and yes it is in Kingscliff as well as a bit of Cudgen) is bizarre.
Why try to ruin a wonderful seaside village and significant farming land forever?
You know what a huge impact a major referral hospital will have on the surrounding environment.
Don’t you care that over 7,000 residents in the immediate vicinity, who have chosen to live here for the peaceful coastal atmosphere, will have their quality of life severely affected by traffic gridlock and noise pollution?
It is bizarre that such a huge development will occur within one kilometre of our pristine beach at Kingscliff.
Are there any other hospitals this close to prime beachfront anywhere in Australia?
At least Luke Foley and Walt Secord have listened to the community on this, and have acted decisively.
You shouldn’t underestimate the depth of community anger about your bizarre choice of site for our new hospital.
