If anybody were in doubt about the depths the NSW coalition government will sink to with grubby politics in its attempt to retain power, consider the spectacle of senior government ministers like Nationals Melinda Pavey who, under parliamentary privilege, cast unsubstantiated claims against opposition leader Luke Foley.
The aspersions imply that Mr Foley harassed a female ABC journalist at a function. The problem is that nobody else, including the journalist, knows anything about it.
And those notorious Sydney scandal sheets, The Australian and Daily Telegraph newspapers, led the charge – they must love getting sued by aggrieved plaintiffs.
If this appalling display of gutter politics is a prelude to what’s coming in the run-up to the state election two things are certain; the coalition government is in trouble and they see Luke Foley’s leadership of the Labor opposition as a serious threat.
