Paul McCarthy, Byron Bay
Fair go for residents having to put up with gridlock traffic with Easter school holidays etc then comes the triathlon to put more pressure on. With one road in and out of Byron they stop everyone with road closures.
Other events, weddings, parents taking children to sports etc, deserve a fair go.
The potholes were filled for the triathalon, yet the people who pay rates for roads and the filling of potholes have to drive and ride on sub-standard potholed roads the rest of the year even in the CBD.
The roads in the CBD should be paved in gold not potholes if the council gave Byron all the money put into the parking meters. That’s what they promised other local towns.
Not to mention revenue for councils from parking fines. In 2017 they were: Ballina $197,984, Kyogle $1,019, Lismore $118,968, Richmond $40,851 and Byron $1,384,354. How much has this substitute bed tax gone up this year along with rates? The CBD should at the very least be kept pothole free. How about a fair go for Byron Bay?
