Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Couching an Opinion

The Bruce Lehrmann and Brittany Higgins case was never about establishing whether or not Lehrmann raped Higgins. It was about Brittany. She was established as not ‘the perfect victim’ so we overlooked the blazingly obvious fact that Bruce Lehrmann was ‘the perfect perpetrator’. An entitled, compulsive wrecking ball of cocaine, $400 steaks, free rent and very very expensive massages.

Ancient brewing tradition honoured

Blaming Queensland again

I was astounded to read Mandy Nolan’s article ‘Why The Nude Beach Is A Wicked Problem’, in which she...

Since the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its damming ‘code-red’ report on the impending climate emergency – warning that the Earth will warm by more than 1.5 degrees within the decade – the Morrison/Joyce government’s continuing hyperbole about ‘we’re doing our bit’ and ‘Australia has runs on the board’ continues to defy all logic.

The initial reply from ‘missing in action’ Morrison was swift, to the point, totally committed and, as usual, a load of rhetorical, misleading nonsense (bullshit). ‘Scotty’ again refused to commit to net-zero emissions by 2050, citing that he ‘doesn’t sign blank cheques on targets without plans’; strange, signing blank cheques didn’t seem to worry him, (or the Nationals) with the car parks and sports-rorts scams.

It’s painfully obvious that after a decade of complete stagnation on climate action by the coalition the only way we can get out of this bog-hole is by removing the coalition. Now that serial climate denialist and obsessive nuisance, Barnaby Joyce has regained control of the National Party, any sensible action [from the Nats] is virtually impossible.

Within the Liberal Party, there is a growing number of moderate MPs who know the world is fast approaching a tipping point; but while ever the obstructionists maintain control, serious proactive climate change policy will remain elusive.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.

  1. You “talk the Talk” about this over exaggerated
    Global Warming Mr Duncan ?
now your shire declared a Climate emergency without ratepayers Input
Incidentally Keith !! now you maybe the first
To answer this question, because your Shire
Council could not Keith !! Just in layman’s terms, name one emergency? That has taken place in your shire Keith regarding
Climate change? Just one Keith …
    the meaning of Emergency?
    ” Imminent danger ”
Now “talk the talk keith” its at tipping point
    Remember?

  2. Wow, now there is some fire and venom from the peanut gallery; anyone needing questions answered regarding the climate emergency should contact professor Tm Flannery from the Sydney university, I’m sure that he is eminently qualified.

  3. Keith. You invite Barrow to consult “the professor of dud predictions”. Left yourself open there. If your mob fights the next election on a platform of the IPCC code red report and the premise were “fast approaching the tipping point”, then we could see another 3 years of Morrison and Barnaby. The majority of Australians have little interest in either point.

  4. David Fitzgerald
    The Majority of Australians voted
    down Labor / Greens policies
for good reason at the last Federal election .
fiscally taxpayer’s and that would be the voters were unable to commit
To labors policies regarding Global warming
Because bill Shorten could not answer the Question when asked by a reporter on several occasions!! this was not a good outcome for labor and the rest is history..
all elections are victorious from the middle
Mr Fitzgerald… as you are well aware..

  5. Keith how ironic you call anyone with pushback a peanut… has been very entertaining incidentally Mr Duncan
when the left has knowone to turn on
    they turn on themselves… Joachim
being the prime example!! .. as for your demi
god Mr Flannery well his predictions speak
for themselves do they not Keith ? the Man
Has ZERO qualifications to lecture all on
Climate change but hey nor do you Mr
Duncan.. seriously join the Greens keith ..
Do us and labor a favour…

  6. I know it’s difficult to convince climate deniers anything that makes any sense; if Tim Flannery’s qualifications aren’t good enough, then how about ex US Vice President Al Gore who wrote a world acclaimed book about climate deniers, called an inconvenient truth and inspired a whole generation of young activists like Greta Thunberg. With a bit of luck someone who badly needs to, might just learn something from them; best of luck, the world is moving on anyway.
