In recent commentary on the Commonwealth’s proposed quarantine facility in Brisbane, Simon Birmingham said, ‘Whilst it will be used for any ongoing quarantine requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic it will also be there in the years to come to support responses to natural disasters or other crises.’ Sort of begs the question doesn’t it?
As Finance Minister, Senator Birmingham seems to be heading off possible criticism for the spend on the Brisbane facility given that the Qld government and the Wagner family are contemporaneously developing the Wellcamp quarantine facility.
The language is interesting… Senator Birmingham has had a sudden awakening… he is now focussed on ‘supporting responses to… [future] crises’. WTF? (What To Finance?). How long has the pandemic been going on, Senator Birmingham? The ‘stuff-ups’ have been monumental and the attempts at salvaging some credibility, downright embarrassing.
