Driving into Mullum and seeing the red, black, and yellow painted on the roundabout on Invasion Day touched a deep sadness within. While the artwork is a mark of respect of the First People, no mob can afford to live here. There is no land in this town or valleys for the descendants of the original people of this area. Native title is only for a small group, other families get nothing.
Until expanses of land are given back by private individuals or governments, without condition, to all the descendants with bloodline connection all acknowledgments of original people are just tokens.
There is no greater an injustice than the theft of Aboriginal land. An injustice that has not even come close to being reconciled.
