Mandy Nolan’s Soapbox: Shopping Centres Scare Me

I feel trapped. There isn’t a single time I attend where I don’t check my proximity to the exits, or imagine what I’d do if there was a fire, or worse, a shooter. The sense of being enclosed is unnatural, I can’t tell what time of day it is, I lose my sense of direction. It’s designed to be disorienting. It feels otherworldly. And never in a good way. They are designed to make you stay longer. They are by design, disorienting.

Local electricity retailer Enova Energy has received the highest rating possible in the new Green Electricity Guide released by Greenpeace today.

The five-star rating follows an independent assessment of Enova’s operations, model, and approach by Greenpeace’s Green Electricity Guide team.

‘The rating recognises our focus on enabling energy resilience in local communities and regions, as well as our support for renewable energy generation aimed at accelerating the much-needed transition to renewable energy,’ said Enova Energy Managing Director, Felicity Stening.

Enova’s works also involves enabling local communities to generate, store and share their own renewable energy, allowing money spent on electricity to circulate locally.

‘From day one, Enova has focussed on ensuring its ownership, structure, energy sourcing and profit-for-purpose social enterprise model combine to actively address the causes of climate change and to increase climate resilience in our communities,’ Ms Stening said.

The Green Electricity Guide is a fully independent assessment by Greenpeace of Australia’s electricity retailers.

It will play a role in the uptake of clean renewable energy by making it easier for consumers to tell which electricity companies have strong climate policies and support renewable energy and which do not.

The criteria against which Enova Energy was assessed were:
• Provides clean, renewable energy
• Ending dirty coal use by 2030
• Halting fossil fuel expansion
• Support for new renewable energy
• Transparency in marketing
• Avoiding pollution and environmental harm

  1. Yes I’m with Enova & I Love them. Fantastic trustworthy/ /genuine/ easy to deal /friendly & very Green. what more could one ask for ? Wish I switched Energy companies years ago .However, I was with Powershop (also renewable ) BUT they sold out to Shell a disgusting oil company. I changed energy companies in a heartbeat . Shell is ONE of the worst they have an appalling reputation & many decades ago were lobbying the Nigerian Govt to get rid of the Ogini indigenous people off their land, due to finding oil there. The short story is , the corrupt govt moved in (Thanks Shell you rotters) and murdered people & actually mutilated them. The locals fought hard & Ken Sari Wee Wa ( tribal leader I will never forget his name) was murdered. Why don’t people know this ?? After finding this out decades ago I will NEVER buy fuel from Shell…never . I will walk with a fuel can, but NEVER buy fuel from them & anyone listening shouldn’t either. Never forget the Ogini people. 🙁

    • I certainly applaud your efforts to source your energy ethically , and I agree with everything you say about Shell.
I am though sad to inform you that my research into Enova greatly disappointed me when I saw that they are something of a front company for Total ( French petrochemical ) and although they have great aspirations of sustainability , in the meantime source a large component of their energy from coal-fired power-stations.
It is becoming harder to trust any entity with a profit motive.
      Keep on trying, G”)

    • Please excuse and disregard the connection with Total above , as it appears I am Wrong . I have accidentally confused Enova’s connection with Diamond Energy (Australia) with Diamond Energy Texas.
Dazed and confused ! Cheers, G”)

      • Hi Ken

Murray here from Team Enova. Thanks so much for providing the correction – it’s very much appreciated. I’m happy to confirm that we’re community owned with 1,600 amazingly loyal and passionate shareholders, most of which are based right here in the Northern Rivers.

Here’s a useful link to answer the important questions around where we source our energy from and thanks again for taking the interest. It’s important to keep a watchful eye.

        Link below and thanks again
