Lismore will have its first ever Zine and Print fair at Elevator ARI (3 Rural St Lismore) this Saturday.
Organised by local artist and zine maker Chris Lego and the Make Do Collective, it promises to be a vibrant day of creative chaos.
‘People like to tell their stories and share their passions – the zine subculture, while often hidden away, is thriving in this digital age,’ Mr Lego said.
‘It’s a special thing to give someone a physical zine of your writing. Its a visceral, tactile thing, not a link to something else on a screen.
‘You can do a DIY publication about anything that you are passionate about, gardening, music, politics, and art just to name a few examples.’
Artist and zine maker Swerve Harris is one of the stallholders.
‘I’m really looking forward to sharing my work with people and meeting other zine makers in real life,’ Mr Harris said.
‘Also i want to win the Mega Zine Raffle!’
The mega zine raffle is a basket of one copy of each zine from every stall plus a t-shirts and other treasures. The winner will be drawn at 5pm sharp.
There are 22 stalls booked in so far and music from DJ Guy Grey from the Make Do Collective will be playing all day, 11am to 6pm.
It won’t only be zines of peoples art and writing available on the day, the print element of the fair encompasses collage artists, screen printed treasure, lino cut prints and other locally made art treasure.
