November 25 is the start of the 16 Days of Activism against Domestic Violence an annual event when the community pledges to say ‘no’ to domestic, family and sexual violence. 

The initiative, launched in 2008, was created to support the civil society-led 16 Days campaign around the world.

Lives are lost every year due to domestic murder and trauma. Domestic and family violence creates a burden upon our future and our children – next year it will the 50th anniversary of domestic violence refuges in Australia. We ask you to make the pledge and say ‘no to domestic violence’.

Women Up North is a Northern NSW service supporting women and children who are experiencing domestic and family violence. They are based in Lismore, and work throughout the Northern Rivers. They have partnered with Challenger to host a fundraising gala at Hotel Metropole, Lismore on Saturday, November 25.

The event will be headlined by Lisa Hunt and her band, they will get the party started like no other with the very best of sweet soul, Motown, R&B, funk and disco. Lisa Hunt has headlined festivals like Byron Bay Blues and Roots and Brisbane’s Groove and Grape, giving soul-stirring performances that give her a reputation that’s usually reserved for celebrities.

The evening will be full of entertainment with live auctions and raffles all hosted by brilliant guest MC, Lucinda Light.

This is an evening you won’t want to miss, get together with friends, family or work buddies and add this to your end-of-year celebration calendar.
