It is common knowledge shared by Byron Shire Council (BSC) water and sewer engineering staff and the director of infrastructure that approximately twelve houses directly receive their drinking water from the Laverty Gap water plant. This fact that this has not been discussed or raised throughout the whole supposed consultation process is outrageous.
BSC executive and engineering staff involved in this process have totally ignored these people and their situation. Was Mayor Lyon aware of these people and their situation?
The recommendation supposedly from the consulting firm is actually an executive recommendation plus engineering staff.
No consideration for these residents has been raised by the consultants, Council engineers, or the director of infrastructure, how is this possible?
The other issue which is happening now is Council’s lack of consideration for residents particularly where private certifiers are involved in a development application (DA) .
Private certifiers are responsible to Council’s compliance department and a stop-work order can be issued by the compliance department if Council’s compliance regulations are being ignored.
Staff representing Council’s compliance department are informing residents, who are making a complaint about private certifiers ignoring compliance requirements, that they can do nothing. This is outrageous.
The other excuse being offered by representatives of Council is we just don’t have the money to do anything, unbelievable.
