Thank you for the political comment from David Heilpern (July 3) – it was to the point and very well explained.

Comments on ‘back to basics – there is a war between Israel and Hamas’ unfortunately left out was that this current war, and the others have always been between Israel and the Palestinian people.

It is worth remembering that in 1948 Israel invaded and 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their lands.

There have been eight subsequent wars and massacres in 75 years of wars since then: 1967, 2000, 2008, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2023 (pre-October 7). Hamas was elected in 2006 and all those years of occupation, murders, starvation, humiliations and tragedy have taken its toll. It is shameful and will never be forgotten.
