This Saturday the Ballina Salvage Shed is holding its second annual recycled art competition where locals are encouraged to get their family and friends and create a recycled letterbox or backyard habitat.
‘The recycled art competition started last year and has doubled in size,’ Nicole Bateman, Manager of the Ballina Salvage Shed and Tweed Recyclers Op shop, told The Echo.
‘The idea is to get people to be environmentally conscious and to reuse and recycle waste. We wanted to encourage people to make art out of recyclable goods.’
The Ballina Salvage Shed and Tweed Recyclers Op shop are both supported disability environments that support people to work, earn money and gain skills.

‘Working at both these sites gives people the opportunity to upskill and build confidence within the community,’ explained Nicole.
All the artworks must contain a minimum of 80 per cent recycled materials and there are four categories to enter: U12, 12-18, open and group with prizes ranging from $50 to $150.
‘The entries so far are looking really good and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the exhibition on Saturday. There will be a sausage sizzle from 10.30 to 12.30 and the winners will be announced,’ said Nicole.
The exhibition is being held this Saturday, November 16 at the Ballina Salvage Shed right next to the Ballina Council tip at 167 Southern Cross Way.
