Tweed Byron police say they issued several fines, took actions under the Young Offenders Act and charged two men for riding E-Bikes whilst affected by alcohol as part of a blitz last week.
Officers engaged in Operation Cyclesafe say they were targeting E-bike and E-Scooter offences at shopping centres and in residential streets in the South Tweed, Banora Point, Kingscliff, Casuarina and Pottsville areas last Tuesday 26 August.
They say they engaged with 28 riders, including legal processes with twelve youth the age of sixteen, with officers contacting their parents.
Five riders received fines of more than four hundred dollars each for failing to wear a helmet.
Police say they also fined a man for riding an E-Bike on a footpath, an offence carrying three demerit points.
Tweed/Byron District Crime Manager Detective Inspector Matt Zimmer says riders and parents need to ensure that their E-Bikes are compliant, and they obey the road rules.
He says Youth Command Police are continueing to work with local schools providing education about the safe use of E-Bikes.
Operations will continue, police say, and will reportedly also involve officers deployed in plain clothes in and around shopping centres.
