A dozen people were charged with domestic violence related offences in the week ending Friday 3 October, Tweed Byron police said on social media last week.
The DV arrests accounted for more than a third of the 33 people arrested and charged at Tweed Heads and Byron Bay Police Stations in a week.
They included five for contravening Apprehended Violences Orders and four for assault.
Officers said two of those arrested would also face charges for stealing and a third for destroying property.
One of the alleged offenders, a 36-year-old man from Tweed Heads South, was described as running from police and then trying to escape on a stolen bicycle before his arrest on 30 September.
Police said they laid charges against him for multiple offences relating to domestic violence, property crime, possession of drugs and resisting arrest.
He was due to appear at the Tweed Heads Local Court on 17 November.
Two arrested for unlawful knife possession
Other arrests in the Tweed Byron Police District last week included two people charged for the unlawful possession of knives.
Three people were charged for the unlawful possession of drugs.
Sixteen people were charged for road and/or traffic offences, including eight for drink-driving; one for driving under the influence of drugs; and one for driving with an illicit drug present in their blood.
Police charged three people for driving whilst their licence was suspended; two for driving whilst disqualified from doing so; and one for driving with an expired licence.
