Land approved for development of thousands of new homes in the Tweed Shire decades ago has sold, with around 150 dwellings in the new estate also registered as sold.
The Tweed Shire Council says bringing properties to market at the Kings Forest estate near Kingscliff has taken more than thirty years of planning and collaboration.
The estate is approved for 4,500 new dwellings of mixed size and design, with the council describing Kings Forest as playing a crucial role in helping address an ongoing shortage of housing in the Tweed.
New parks, schools, jobs promised for Tweed

Leda Holdings sold the 869-hectare approved development site to Stockland in August last year in one of the largest land transactions recorded for Northern NSW.
Kings Forest is two kilometres from Casuarina Beach and is to feature detached homes, duplexes, terrace row housing and small-scale apartments.
An already developed new park was open to the public over the holiday period thanks to temporary rubbish removal and sewage pump-out services.
The new estate is to include multiple parks and schools, a town centre, sports fields and retail.
Council staff say more than 300 hectares of conservation and 22 hectares of green space is included in the design and that the area is expected to provide employment to 1,500 people.
Gradual land releases are expected to happen over the next two years alongside infrastructure rollouts.
