In another blow to the festival economy of Byron Shire, Spaghetti Circus have announced that its National Circus Festival will not be held this year. Yet it’s not all bad – it will be on for 2027. It was to be held at the Mullumbimby Showground 2–4 October 2026.
Spaghetti Circus said in a statement, ‘This decision follows increasing cost pressures and shifts in the funding landscape that are impacting regional arts organisations and festivals’.
‘This wasn’t easy. But we want to make sure the festival comes back strong, bold and sustainable.
Artistic Director, Alice Cadwell said, ‘Rather than deliver a reduced program, we’ve chosen to invest this time into strengthening the Festival’s future.’
‘In 2026, Spaghetti Circus will continue deliver performances, training opportunities and community programs across the Northern Rivers’.
The new dates for the 2027 festival are:
Training Program: Sunday 26 September – Thursday 30 September 2027
Festival Weekend: Friday 1 October – Sunday 3 October 2027
Further details will be announced later this year, says Spaghetti Circus. For more info visit www.nationalcircusfestival.com
