Rescue helicopter service promises reform after harassment findings

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has apologised and committed to workplace reforms after an independent review found inadequate disciplinary responses to substantiated sexual harassment and bullying complaints.

So the NRPP unanimously approved the controversial 57 Station St development after more than 2,500 signatories were against it.

Those signatures were overlooked and Landcom has the go-ahead. Our mayor had the final vote a few weeks back as to whether this was a go-ahead development or not, she graciously voted for it to go ahead.

The question I ask myself is: where is the democratic outlook regarding this issue, with so many against this development? And with good reason too, the businesses on the other side of this development will all suffer, some will close down, others will struggle on, IGA will definitely suffer from this arrangement and so will we. Is this by design – just to make things harder for people who live in this area and use Mullumbimby town centre every day? I think so.

Council really did not take us into account regarding this development, but it seems it really wanted Landcom to get this job. I wonder why, was it to show us that petitions mean absolutely nothing in the scheme of things, that we really have no say in this ‘democracy’ or maybe just a token say to make it look like a democracy?

As someone who has lived here for almost 30 years I do not feel that this development is positive for the people of Mullumbimby.
