Update Monday 26th August, 11am: ‘vegetation’ came in contact with powerlines
Essential Energy says Sunday’s power outage in Tyagarah and surrounding areas was the result of vegetation coming in contact with powerlines.
Essential Energy North Coast Operational Manager Chris Maccoll said in an emailed statement 2, 228 customers were without power from 5.30pm but Essential Energy workers responded immediately and power was back for most customers by 6pm.
Another 261 customers were without power for more than four hours before workers resolved the issue.
Original story
Essential Energy says more than two thousand two hundred homes were without power last night in the Byron area, including Tyagarah and other coastal suburbs.
The company failed to provide updates on the outages via social media but said on its online map tracker the outages were unplanned interruptions.
An Essential Energy spokesperson was unavailable for comment at time of publication but said more information was to come.
