2. Tweed Regional Gallery
The Wollumbin Art Award (WAA) is the Gallery’s biennial $30,000 award open to artists living in the Tweed, Ballina, Byron, Kyogle and Scenic Rim Shires, as well as Richmond Valley, Lismore and Gold Coast City.
The award, named after the mountain that overlooks the gallery, celebrates the calibre and diversity of artists of the region.
The 2026 WAA showcases an impressive selection of artworks from shortlisted finalists across the region including painting, ceramics, works on paper, sculpture and digital works.
The 2026 guest judge is Professor Lisa Slade, curator, art historian and Hugh Ramsay Chair in Australian Art History at the University of Melbourne.

6. Solveig
For Solveig, art has never been about fitting neatly inside categories. A lifelong painter, psychologist, curator, and creative force based in Mullumbimby, her work fuses the emotional resonance of Impressionism with a distinctly graphic sensibility she calls ‘graphic impressionism.’ Colour, movement, and light become tools not just of representation, but of feeling.
Born in Sydney in 1952, Solveig studied painting and sculpture at the National Art School during the height of Australia’s psychedelic era, absorbing the influence of artists such as Martin Sharp and John Olsen. Over decades of practice, motherhood, study, and self-reflection, her work evolved into a deeply intuitive exploration of nature, consciousness, and healing.
That belief in art as a healing force now extends beyond her own practice through the H’Art Gallery at Mullumbimby Comprehensive Health Centre, which she curates as a space showcasing Northern Rivers artists across painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Under Solveig’s guidance, the gallery has become an unexpected cultural hub — bringing contemporary local art into a public health setting where creativity, conversation, and wellbeing intersect.
Her own works in Exhibition 12 range from luminous botanicals to abstract neural landscapes, all carrying her signature interplay of colour vibration and layered form.
‘Art doesn’t just decorate a health centre,’ Solveig says, ‘It heals it.’
7. Arcaa Presents: FORMED ( Women In Art )
This month, Arcaa’s Byron Bay showroom is home to FORMED, a group exhibition celebrating the work of five women artists and their distinct approaches to form, texture and material.
Featuring Niah McLeod, Rikki Day, Jedda, Hattie Zampa and Tahuna Collective, the exhibition brings together painting, sculpture, jewellery and tactile works that reflect the individuality and creative spirit of the artists behind them.
Together, the works explore the relationship between art, object and everyday life, bringing different practices and perspectives into one space. Each artist brings her own language, materials and way of seeing, creating an exhibition that feels diverse, considered and distinctly personal.
The works are available to purchase, offering an opportunity to take a piece of the exhibition home.
FORMED runs until September 26, at Arcaa Showroom, 4B/11 Banksia Drive, Byron Bay, during normal store hours.
