A passenger has died, and a driver and passenger remain outstanding, following a single vehicle crash in Tweed Heads.

Shortly after 10.30pm on the evening of Monday 30 March 2026, emergency services were called to the intersection of Heffron Street and Oxley Street, Tweed Heads South, following reports a sedan had rolled.

Officers attached to Tweed-Byron Police District attended and were told the vehicle had rolled after leaving the roadway and crashing into a boulder.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the front seat passenger – a man believed to be aged in his 30s – at the scene; however, he could not be revived.

The driver and a second passenger left the scene prior to police arrival.

Police, with the assistance of the Crash Investigation Unit, have commenced an investigation under Strike Force Dartglen to locate the driver and investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information or a dashcam footage is urged to contact Tweed Heads Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Interview with Genevieve Clay-Smith, director of Boss Cat showing at the Byron Bay Film Festival

When Sonja (Olivia Hargroder) loses her mother without warning, the only steady presence left in her life is her grandmother, Doris. But Doris’s idea of stability means dismantling everything Sonja has built. For Sonja, who lives with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and has spent her life fighting to be underestimated by no one, Doris’ plan feels less like protection and more like erasure. Directed by Genevieve Clay-Smith, Boss Cat is a vibrant, big-hearted Australian dramedy about independence, family and self-determination, anchored by a fearless lead performance.
