Since July, legal action has stopped the Forestry Corporation logging nationally important koala habitat in Braemar and Myrtle State Forests, south of Casino. However, logging can now resume despite evidence of significant impacts on koalas. 

The North East Forest Alliance is calling on people to take action to protect one of the most important Koala habitats on the Richmond River Lowlands in response to the Forestry Corporation commencing logging in Braemar State Forest – south of Casino.

While RFS volunteers were busy assessing property damage and Cr Mustow was calling for people to register themselves on a survival list run by Red Cross late last week, Mr Pugh said nobody was allowed into the fire-impacted area south of Casino to check on wildlife.

Koala advocates say they may end up blockading the Braemar State Forest if the NSW Foresty Corporation tries to start logging there soon.

With logging due to start in the Braemar State Forest next Friday, the North East Forest Alliance (NEFA) are calling on the community to voice their opposition to logging of core Koala habitat.

The Forestry Corporation is being called to account over management of koalas and logging at the Braemar State Forest, just south of Casino.
