Byron Shire Councillor Asren Pugh is seeking support to consider the option of heritage listing the Bangalow Bowlo in response to the closure of the bowlo by Norths Collective (North Sydney Leagues Club) on Friday, 24 October.

A new zoning for low-cost rental housing is being proposed by independent councillor, David Warth.

Labor councillor Asren Pugh has taken issue with the Mullumbimby Residents Association (MRA) questioning of Council plans to develop 32 units and a commercial shop on a busy carpark in the town’s CBD. 

Independent Byron Shire councillor, Michael Lyon, appeared in the Tweed Heads Criminal Court this morning for what turned out to be his last appearance in the matter concerning an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) that the police sought against him in August last year.

One of the six new councillors at the Council bench in the Byron Shire is Elia Hauge, member of the Greens team.

While Cr Michael Lyon was affirming himself to undertake the duties of office on Thursday morning, what most people didn’t know was that he had recently spent a night in the police watch house after allegedly breaching an AVO placed on him in August.

The NSW Electoral Commission has published a list of everyone who is standing for the positions of mayor and councillor in the forthcoming local government elections. Quite a few new names are in the mix, while some familiar figures won't be contesting their positions again.

With most of the votes cast, and counting over until tomorrow, the New South Wales Electoral Commission stats would suggest that there are three clear winners of the mayoral contests in Ballina, Byron and Lismore Shires.
