For decades the Evans Head Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) has been dumping effluent into Salty Lagoon in Broadwater National Park. Rich in nutrients and other contaminants, the lake succumbed to these pollutants with a massive fish and bird kill in 2005.

Evans Head Residents for Sustainable Development are concerned about the proposed route of a new 4WD access route to Airforce Beach, just north of Evans Head.

Dr Richard Gates from Evans Head Residents for Sustainable Development Inc. has pointed out some discrepancies in the sales pitch for the controversial proposed development at Iron Gates, near Evans Head.

At its December meeting, Richmond Valley Council, in a five-part motion, resolved to continue to allow 4 wheel drive vehicles (4WDs) access to Airforce Beach, Evans Head, but locals say risks have not been addressed.

The vexed issue of 4 Wheel Drive (4WD) access at Airforce Beach, Evans Head, is now open for public comment, closing 30 November.

It was a year ago on the July 31 2024, that the Land & Environment Court (LEC) approved residential development at the controversial Iron Gates site at Evans Head.

Well, here we are less than two weeks out from the expiry date (October 31) for the Intent to Appeal the decision of the Land & Environment Court to approve a 121 residential lot development at the Iron Gates at Evans Head, and we have yet to hear from Richmond Valley Council about what it intends to do.

Last Friday Richmond Valley Council (RVC) announced that it has lodged a Notice of Intention to Appeal the recent judgement made by the NSW Land and Environment Court in favour of Goldcoral Pty Ltd’s Iron Gates development at Evans Head.
