Yesterday a big group of knitters responded to Ballina Library's call for a knit-in to help the charity Wrap With Love keep people warm this winter.

Ballina Shire Council and Richmond Tweed Regional Libraries have joined forces to offer reusable kids’ party kits, as part of their ongoing commitment to reduce single use items across the shire.

Late during yesterday's epic Ballina Shire Council meeting, there was an intense discussion over the present and future of libraries in the region, brought on by the controversial closure of all local libraries, apart from Click and Collect, by the Richmond Tweed Regional Library.

Tweed Shire Councillor James Owen (Liberal) has expressed frustration over the closure of Regional Tweed Library (RTL) network to the public until 1 December, particularly those in Murwillumbah, Tweed and Kingscliff. Similarly other businesses in the region are facing the same question of if opening up is worth the risks.

The Richmond Tweed Regional Mobile Library was a common sight around the region prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and it is once again going to be out and about for readers from this week.

All systems go for Tweed Library reopening on Friday.

Bookworms will have to go without the services of the Tweed Heads Library this Christmas, with Tweed Shire Council reporting the much anticipated reopening would be delayed while ‘finishing touches’ are made to the building.
