NSW government funding will help provide a weekday bus service as part of the Tweed Good Start program.
Tweed MP Geoff Provest has announced a $33,000 NSW government contribution to a bus service that will allow Aboriginal families living in the Tweed Shire to attend health and early education programs.
‘Currently, some children are unable to attend these essential child and family support centres due to lack of suitable transport in the Tweed Heads area,’ Mr Provest said.
‘The funding will provide a regular Monday to Friday bus service from 7am to 6.30pm that is available via pre-booking.’
The bus will be fitted with baby capsules and booster seats with an onboard support worker for people attending the partner centres.
‘Parents and carers are also given the opportunity to receive parenting advice, counselling services, health checks and general parenting support,’ Mr Provest said.
The program is also available to non-Aboriginal families through the use of spare capacity.
