The challenge will always be convincing residents that their rates equal value for money.
Often the infrastructure and services are not obvious to residents, so reminding them of exactly what services are provided for their rates, and importantly, how to take the best advantage of those services in order to receive value for money, should be a priority.
You certainly can’t promise people that you’re going to cut their rates, so a councillor’s job is to reassure residents and demonstrate to them that their rates are going to good use.
