Pacific Highway traffic is close to a standstill at Chinderah, just south of Tweed Heads, after a B-double truck rolled near the BP service station at around 2am.
The truck spilled fuel across the road, closing two of three southbound lanes and one of three northbound lanes.
The Traffic Management Centre has advised people using the Pacific Highway to either delay their journey or exercise considerable patience.
An effort to salvage the truck was due to begin at 9 this morning and is expected to take some time.
