John Scrivener, Main Arm

I support Andrew Wilkie’s demand for a long overdue inquiry into the decision to join the US-led invasion of Iraq. It’s been ten years since John Howard conspired with Bush and Blair to commit their premeditated act of unlawful aggression against Iraq, and still there is silence on the part of Australian authorities.

There has been no official inquiry, no debate about the legality of our involvement, no reflection, no remorse, no admission of error or blame; it’s as if it never happened, all forgotten, swept under the national rug.

This lamentably exemplifies the appalling hypocrisy and moral paucity of the Australian polity: always eager to accompany our imperial patrons on missions of mass destruction, but not so keen to take responsibility for the consequences.

Surely it’s time we faced up to our part in the commission of crimes against humanity and moved to indict any credibly accused war criminals and their warmongering cohort.

Support The Echo

Keeping the community together and the community voice loud and clear is what The Echo is about. More than ever we need your help to keep this voice alive and thriving in the community.

Like all businesses we are struggling to keep food on the table of all our local and hard working journalists, artists, sales, delivery and drudges who keep the news coming out to you both in the newspaper and online. If you can spare a few dollars a week – or maybe more – we would appreciate all the support you are able to give to keep the voice of independent, local journalism alive.
