My wife and I stopped into the Byron Bay Markets on January 6. We arrived mid-morning and had difficulty finding a car park at these obviously popular markets. We parked in the tall grass well off the road alongside many other vehicles. After spending over two hours purchasing various items from the lovely stalls we returned to our car and continued our journey back to Cairns.
Imagine our shock when about a month later we received a Penalty Notice for $232 for disobeying a No Stopping sign! We thought there must have been some mistake and unfortunately did not investigate the matter immediately. When we did investigate we were informed that we were parked in a No Parking area.
Well blow me down, doesn’t the Byron shire believe in providing appropriate signage? Obviously we were not the only ones who did not see any signs warning people that they could not park in this area.
Market day is certainly a money spinner for Byron Shire Council at the cost of their visitors. I guess we won’t be calling in again.
