Joan Lieshout, former Tweed mayor
Perhaps Menkit Prince should reconsider her claims that the sacking of the GM at TSC was honourable!
Due process was not followed by the mayor and it should be considered that there are questions as to why the mayor would act so quickly and so persuasively with such drastic action.
Having served my community for the past four years as mayor and councillor of TSC I can assure you that Mr Keenan was bringing the wind of change, which would be damaging to the egos and agendas of both sides of politics!
It would be astute to reserve judgment until a full enquiry has been conducted and hopefully conducted with full transparency and non-conformance to any label of political persuasion.
In my opinion ‘the bomb that needed to happen’ has now exploded and I welcome a new broom to sweep clean the debris that has eroded this shire for many years and I look forward to the opportunity to start afresh in looking forward to a more sustainable future that embraces the many talents of this diverse, amazing community.
I am satisfied that the decision to appoint David Keenan as general manager for the Tweed Shire Council (a talented visionary with strong credentials in economic, environmental and social skills) was one that would benefit the future of the region. His actions are indicative of one who would seek to ensure a strong cohesive management team.
The role of the elected body is to set the course and destination – therefore the role of the GM is to steer the ship and manage the crew!
Mutual respect is a ‘given’!
